Windsor Gallery is pleased to present the recent work of Ivorian artists Ulrik Abé and DJI (Jean-Christian Azier).
Born in 1990, Ulrik Abé specializes in graphic communication at INSAAC where he graduated with a master’s degree. Very early on, he found in art an outlet, an escape. Through his practice, he undertakes an identity quest and reveals in watermark the answers to his existential questions.
Mixing earth, coffee and cocoa, with painting, the artist develops a singular aesthetic that he nicknamed ‘Art’boki’ in reference to the Abokis, a street vendor of hot drinks in Ivory Coast.
Also from Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal, Jean- Christian Azier also known as DJI is a self-taught artist born in 1999. Punctuated by stays in West Africa, DJI’s journey takes him to Montreal, Canada, where he currently lives.
Through his work, DJI questions the origins of the surrealist movement to which he identifies. His practice revolves around narrative. Based on an elaborate sketch, he lets his imagination run wild and cohabits on the same canvas, ancestral stories, individual or collective present and dreams of the future.
